1. Preventive measures

The first thing you can do about laptop overheating is cleaning the vents on sides and back of you laptop casing with a mild air blow either from a low power vacuum cleaner of a small compressed air can and then you can try not to hold your laptop over cloths fur containing stuff while your are using it. Try to use it on a table on any hard surface to avoid blocking of vents. In winters when you would be normally using your laptop on your bed, you can try keeping it over a book and then on your lap to avoid fur blocking the cooling mechanism and air flow to internal components of laptop.

And lastly as a preventive measure you can purchase laptop cooling pads for your laptop size, there are numerous choices available in online market.

2. Overheat protection measure

So what if you try everything mentioned above and still feel like your piece of hardware may be prone to damage from heat from your heavy workloads,  the savior is OVERHEAT PROTECTION, yes you can manually decide at what temperature your laptop should sleep/shutdown/hibernate or notify you about overheating of its processor (hottest part in whole laptop). Its a kind of self analysis and monitoring done by your laptop to protect its brain (CPU) from frying when you are extracting heavy work from it in a not so ventilated place.

lets stop beating around the bush, here's a free software for windows called Core Temp, as the name suggests it just tells temperatures of all cores of your laptop processor, you can download it from here and activate overheat protection for your laptop from it (How? : In the video given below)
